Arthroscopy
The arthroscopy is a surgical technique minimally invasive which makes it possible to visualise and treat the inside of a joint through small incisions. A high-definition camera (arthroscope) is introduced along with specific instruments, which allows for a precise, safe intervention with less aggression to the tissues.
Thanks to this technique, it is possible to diagnose and treat multiple joint pathologies with faster recovery, less postoperative pain and minimal scarring.
I regularly perform arthroscopy on shoulder, knee and wrist, to treat injuries such as meniscus tears, joint instability, tendon injuries, impingement or intra-articular free bodies.
It is a key tool in modern orthopaedic surgery, and its indication is always assessed according to the injury, the patient's condition and functional goals.
Common indications for arthroscopy:
-
Shoulder: rotator cuff tear, instability, subacromial impingement
-
Knee: meniscal rupture, ligament injuries, chondropathies, free bodies
-
Wrist: triangular fibrocartilage lesions (TFCC), initial osteoarthritis, diagnostic examinations
-
Removal of intra-articular bodies
-
Joint lavage in synovitis or inflammatory arthropathies
